The Preparation

Hi everyone! Since you're reading this blog, you probably know that I'm headed off to India in a few days! This is my first blog, so bear with me as I try to figure everything out. I will be posting on here pretty frequently during my stay in India so I hope you all enjoy my stories. I promise not all of my posts will be this long!

I'll start off giving you all a little background about my trip. I will be spending 4 weeks in Southern India in a city called Tiruchirappali (Trichy) where I will be doing a dental internship. This trip has been put together by my wonderful advisor, Dr. Jones through ASU's Honors College. I'm excited and nervous to say that I will be the first person participating in this particular internship from ASU. I will be going through this experience with three other ASU students; Danielle, Alex, and Dawn. We are all doing different internships, but will be staying together at Bishop Heber College. Since we are the first to attend this internship we hope to shape this trip to our interests and pave the way for future students.

The trip to Trichy shall be an adventure in itself. I will be traveling with Danielle and our flight leaves Friday, May 31 from Charlotte but we don't arrive to Trichy until Sunday, June 2.Since we have to be on 4 different planes and spend the night in Chennai, let's hope everything goes well!

I'm extremely excited for my trip, but also terribly nervous! I've been spending the past few weeks getting everything together. I have bought plenty of linen clothing to keep me cool and covered. They are very conservative in India, so I will not be able to wear my usual shorts and t-shirts. I will be purchasing some traditional Indian clothing once I arrive which will most likely consist of a few Salwar-Khameez.

I've gotten so many shots I'm surprised my arms haven't fallen off, bought tons of Tums, Pepto Bismal tablets, vitamins and pretty much every other medicine you can think of. My bag is also loaded with hand sanitizer, Kleenex wipes, and Cliff Bars. You never know how my stomach will handle the food!

Thanks for putting up with my first blog! Hopefully the rest will be more exciting as I experience life on the other side of the world.
