Trichy!!

Well we’ve FINALLY arrived at the college in Trichy! The flight here from Chennai was adventurous. We got to the airport 3 hours early and still almost missed our flight because we were sitting at the wrong gate. Luckily they called our names out over the speaker system so we took off running across the airport. We were probably the only two Americans in the airport and of course we were the only two running through the airport. Apparently the only reason we didn’t miss our flight is because the Captain was running late too. He hopped on the bus with us to go out to the airplane on the tarmac. He kept telling us we were very lucky that he was behind schedule. Us meeting the pilot personally might tell you something about the size of the plane. We were on the smallest airplane I’ve ever been on. The wings were actually above us which I thought was interesting compared to all of the other planes we had been on. I felt like I was on a little crop duster.

The college is absolutely gorgeous. I can’t wait to walk around tomorrow and really see what it’s like They assigned all four of us our rooms, Danielle and I are sharing a room. The bathroom is interesting, the shower and toilet are all in the same stall type thing so you shower right beside the toilet. Hopefully I can get some pictures up soon. We’ve seen some mosquitos so we put some nifty mosquito nets up around our bed. We didn’t want to put holes in the wall so went with the American way of duct taping the net to the wall. You can use duct tape for everything, right?

We are the only students at the college right now. They are in between sessions so we have a hostel (dorm) and dining hall all to ourselves. It is really fascinating how they have fed us. First of all they are cooking for only us four which makes me feel a little guilty. They sit us down at a table that is set for four with a rose in the middle. (Come on mom, why don’t you do this for me at home?) They bring us the food to the center of the table and we can just eat until we are stuffed. It seems like they cook enough each time for two meals. They give us a bottle of coke and ketchup with every meal. I guess they know Americans love Coca Cola. We are very lucky that their water is purified so we can have water with our meals and to brush our teeth J

I’m still trying to adjust to the different time zone and to the fact that they don’t acknowledge day light savings time. The sun rises sometime between 5-5:30am and sets around 6:00pm. I guess I’ll learn how to be a morning person! Yeah, I know, that probably won’t happen knowing me.
